The Division of Cardiology within the Department of Pediatrics at UC San Diego and Rady Children's Hospital (https://www.rchsd.org/programs-services/heart-institute/) is currently seeking to fill the position of Division Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at UC San Diego and Rady Children’s Hospital.
UCSD is one of the leading biomedical research universities in the world with more than 80 faculty members in the National Academy of Sciences. Federal research expenditures are in the top 5 in the country and top 3 in NIH funding per faculty member. Co-located on the La Jolla Mesa with The Salk Institute, Scripps Research Institute, Sanford-Burnham-Prebys Medical Research Institute, La Jolla Institute of Immunology, the J. Craig Venter Institute and the Sanford Stem Cell/Regenerative Medicine Consortium, UCSD provides an outstanding collaborative research environment that is home to over 500 biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Major initiatives on campus include UCSD Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, Genomic Medicine, Microbiome Sciences, Diabetes and Metabolism, Big Data Sciences and Drug Discovery.
This 524-bed non-profit pediatric care facility dedicated to excellence in care, research, and teaching serves as a major regional tertiary care hospital for children. The Division of Pediatric Cardiology consists of thirty faculty with depth in the full range of cardiac subspecialties and two experienced cardiac surgeons who are board certified in pediatric cardiovascular surgery. There is a CVICU with 24/7 staffing by 7 cardiac intensivists and a cardiac inpatient unit totaling 32 beds. Annual program volumes include about 500 cardiac surgeries, over 600 cardiac catheterizations, more than 18,000 echocardiograms and outpatient visits. The Division has excelled in every aspect of its clinical mission, and strives to provide culturally competent care for children and families.
The Division Chief will oversee the management of the Division of Cardiology to include direct oversight of faculty, staff and will have direct accountability for the Division’s clinical service and operational performance.
The Department is interested in candidates who have a demonstrated passion for providing outstanding care, a desire to improve systems to maximize efficiency, leadership abilities to engage physicians and hold them accountable, promote an environment that supports diversity and inclusivity among faculty, students and staff, and an enduring commitment to developing a wide range of educational opportunities.
Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and be board certified or eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics in the subspecialty of Cardiology. Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
Candidates must have a national reputation as a leader in academic basic, translational or clinical research, as demonstrated by high quality publication record, excellent trainee outcomes, and sustained competitive extramural funding.
The appropriate series and appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor Rank based on candidate's experience and qualifications. Series will include Ladder Rank, In-Residence with secured extramural funding and Clinical X.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited.
