Position description

The Department of Radiology at UC San Diego ( is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and seeks a project scientist.

The UCSD Women’s Imaging Laboratory is part of the Center for Multimodal Imaging and Genetics which has three 3T translational research MRI scanners. San Diego County is world-renowned for its natural beauty, perfect year-round climate, gorgeous locales on the Pacific Ocean and incomparable recreational opportunities. Great cultural opportunities abound in San Diego County as well as in nearby Los Angeles.

The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of investigators in developing state-of-the-art MRI methods. The researcher will help to advance the mission of the Women’s Imaging Laboratory to provide state-of-the-art imaging methods for the UCSD research community geared towards improving women’s health. The researcher will also help to advance the Department of Radiology's efforts to translate state-of-the-art MRI methods into clinical practice.

Candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent) in engineering or a physical science. The applicant must have outstanding writing and communication skills as demonstrated by a successful publication record. The candidate must have a successful record of developing and implementing advanced MRI acquisition methods, including diffusion MRI, for both research and clinical applications, particularly geared towards women’s health. The candidate must have a successful record of working in an interdisciplinary environment and collaborating with basic scientists and clinicians.

Candidates with demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: female pelvis MRI, breast MRI, fetal MRI are preferred. Preferred candidates will also demonstrate a high level of competence in utilizing a GE MRI platform. Early career candidates are encouraged to apply.

Appointment will be at Assistant or Associate Project Scientist level based on background and experience.
