Position description

The Department of Surgery (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/surgery), Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego is committed to excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Department is recruiting new faculty with a strong interest in education and academic medicine to join our multidisciplinary and fast-growing program.

The Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UC San Diego provides patient care at the cardiovascular institute located on its main campus in La Jolla, CA. The program has had exponential growth over the last decade, and is recognized as a national and international leader in the field of cardiovascular disease. The division also provides clinical practices in multiple locations across the region. Our team is comprised of outstanding faculty and staff committed to patient care, education, research, and quality initiatives.

The Division is searching for a faculty candidate with strong interest in adult Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory support programs. Ideal candidate will also be proficient in all other areas of adult cardiac surgical practice, typical in a quaternary referral center.

Qualified candidates must have an MD or DO degree and be board certified or board eligible in Thoracic Surgery. Candidates must also have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited.
