Position description

The Department of Surgery, Division of Anatomy, in the School of Medicine (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/surgery/divisions/anatomy/) at the University of California, San Diego is committed to excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Department is recruiting a new Senior Lecturer with a strong interest and demonstrated expertise in anatomical education and academic medicine to join our department.

The Division of Anatomy is responsible for medical student anatomy education in the preclinical curriculum. Our award-winning teaching program involves an innovative combination of dissection-based learning, clinically-based instruction modules, and inclusion of surgical specialists in the laboratory setting. Our team is comprised of outstanding faculty and staff committed to student education. In addition to teaching anatomy, the candidate is expected to establish a research program supported by external funding. Consideration will also be given to a surgeon who will balance clinical activities with a primary teaching responsibility in anatomy.

Qualified candidates must:

1) Have a PhD in a health related field or MD
2) Candidates with an MD must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery or one of the surgical subspecialties within one year of appointment
3) Candidates with an MD must be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.

Appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor level. Series will be determined by the successful candidate’s skills, qualifications and experience.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
