Position description

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Department of Pediatrics (http://www-pediatrics.ucsd.edu), and Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego (http://www.rchsd.org) are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are seeking to fill the position of Chief of Neonatology at UCSD and Rady Children’s Hospital - San Diego. The successful candidate will be a renowned leader in the field with commitment to excellence in clinical innovation, teaching, and research.

The UC San Diego Rady Children’s Division of Neonatology possesses an outstanding group of talented clinician educators, translational investigators, and physician scientists and is currently ranked 12th nationally by US News and World Report. Faculty members in the Division of Neonatology cover the 60-bed tertiary Level IV NICU at Rady Children’s Hospital, the 52-bed regional Level III NICU within UC San Diego Jacobs Medical Center, and both Level III and Level II UC San Diego and Rady Children’s Hospital NICUs throughout San Diego and Riverside Counties.

The Division chief will oversee the management of the Division of Neonatology to include direct oversight of faculty, staff and will have direct accountability for the Division’s clinical service and operational performance. This position requires a physician leader who has a passion for providing outstanding care, a desire to improve systems to maximize efficiency, the leadership to engage physicians and hold them accountable, promote an environment that supports diversity and inclusivity among faculty, students and staff, and an enduring commitment to developing a wide range of educational opportunities.

Candidates must have an MD, MD/PhD or equivalent. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics in the sub-specialty of Neonatal-Perinatal medicine. Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.

Candidates with a national reputation as a leader in academic basic, translational or clinical research as demonstrated by a high quality publication record, excellent trainee outcomes, and sustained competitive extramural funding are preferred. Candidates with demonstrable leadership experience and substantial experience in the sub-specialty of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine are preferred.

Appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor Rank based on candidate's experience and qualifications. Series will include 100% Ladder Rank or 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited.
