The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at UC San Diego and Rady Children's Hospital is seeking candidates for the position of Medical Director of Health Failure and Cardiac Transplantation.
The Division of Pediatric Cardiology consists of thirty faculty with depth in the full range of cardiac subspecialties and two experienced cardiac surgeons who are board certified in pediatric cardiovascular surgery. There is a CVICU with 24/7 staffing by 7 cardiac intensivists and a cardiac inpatient unit totaling 32 beds. Annual program volumes include about 500 cardiac surgeries, over 600 cardiac catheterizations, more than 18,000 echocardiograms and outpatient visits.
The pediatric heart transplant program at Rady Children's Hospital was started in 2014. The program currently averages about 10 transplants yearly and includes a variety of patients with complex congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy. The pediatric program is currently staffed by 2 UNOS certified cardiologists and two transplant nurse practitioners. There are two experienced UNOS certified pediatric heart surgeons staffing the surgical side of the program. The program has experience with various pediatric mechanical circulatory support devices including VADs and ECMO. The inpatient service includes a consultative advanced heart failure and transplant service for the CVICU and the Acute Cardiac Unit. The outpatient program includes specialized, multi-disciplinary heart failure and transplant clinics that are held multiple times a week. The program has achieved Center of Excellence designation and is closely affiliated with the busy adult cardiac transplant program at UC San Diego.
The Division of Pediatric Cardiology will oversee all aspects of the program and work in a collaborative manner with a multidisciplinary heart failure/heart transplant team.
Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and be board certified or eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics in the subspecialty of Cardiology. Candidates must also have completed post-fellowship training in Hearth Failure and Cardiac Transplantation. Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
Candidates with at least four years of experience as a staff cardiologist in a UNOS certified pediatric heart transplant program are preferred.
The appropriate series of appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
