Position description

The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health (FMPH) at the University of California, San Diego's School of Medicine (http://fmph.ucsd.edu), is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for one or more faculty positions in the area of Behavioral Medicine, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Policy, and Preventive Medicine.

The Department offers teaching and student mentoring opportunities in our Bachelor of Science in Public Health, MPH, PhD in Public Health ( administered jointly with San Diego State University), and MS and PhD in Biostatistics degree programs. The Department has strong collaborative research programs facilitated by Research Centers of Excellence focused on Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Prevention, Women's Health, Cancer and Energetics, Tobacco Control, Health Promotion and Equity, Wireless and Population Health Systems, and Integrative Medicine.

The Department also provides multiple opportunities for collaboration with colleagues in other School of Medicine departments and in the basic sciences, social sciences, and engineering departments across the UC San Diego campus. Research collaborations are also available at UCSD with the Institute for Public Health, Stein Institute for Research on Aging, Moores Cancer Center, Clinical and Translational Research Institute, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and Jacobs School of Engineering.

Candidates must have an MD, DO, PhD or DrPh or other related doctoral degree by the time of appointment. MD and DO candidates anticipated to have patient care/clinical activity at UCSD must have completed a certified Family Medicine residency training program (or equivalent primary care residency) and be board certified or eligible in Family Medicine (or an equivalent ACGME primary care specialty). Candidates with an MD or DO must be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California. Board certification is a requirement of continued employment within two years of appointment.

Competitive candidates must have current funding and strong publications based on career level and a proven track record in obtaining extramural funding. The successful candidate(s) must have a demonstrated experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduate or graduate students in public health.

Early career candidates with a strong promise of fundability are preferred. Candidates with experience mentoring public health undergraduate or graduate students are preferred. Experience in community-based research is preferred.

Appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Series will be determined by the successful candidate’s skills, qualifications and experience. Position maybe full-time or part-time subject to funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
