We are seeking to fill the position of Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at UCSD and Rady Children’s Hospital (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/pediatrics/Divisions/gastro/Pages/default.aspx). The successful candidate will be a renowned leader in the field with commitment to excellence in clinical innovation, teaching, and research.
RCHSD, with 551 beds has expanded its acute inpatient pavilion and is now the largest children’s hospital on the west coast serving about one million children for their medical and surgical care. The UCSD Department of Pediatrics, with over 330 faculty, has become a national leader in Pediatric Research with over $75 million in annual research revenues spanning basic, translational and clinical investigations.
The Division currently has 25 faculty members with expertise in Fatty Liver, Hepatitis, Eosinophilic Esophagitis, IBD, Celiac Disease, Motility and Aerodigestive. Division faculty conduct multiple clinical trials, engage in cutting edge laboratory research, and have been awarded $7.19M in research funding. The fully accredited fellowship program in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition is supported by a T32 training grant. The next Division Chief will therefore have outstanding opportunities for junior investigator development and mentoring.
Candidates must have an MD or MD/PhD degree or equivalent and be board certified/board eligible in Pediatrics and sub-specialty training in the fields of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and must have substantial experiences in these areas. Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California. The candidate must have demonstrable leadership experience and a national reputation as a leader in academic research, as demonstrated by high quality publication record and sustained competitive extramural funding.
Candidates with experience in inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and/or Nutritional clinical care, the successful completion of a 3-year accredited fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, and several years of clinical and/or unit/division leadership in an academic medicine setting are preferred.

Appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor Rank based on candidate's experience and qualifications. Series will include 100% Ladder Rank or 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales.
