THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY within the Division of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and invites applications for an Excellence search, for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Biology or Materials. Candidates with research interests in organic, organometallic, polymer or materials chemistry are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a strong record of research accomplishment, an innovative research plan, and a demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in teaching. All positions are subject to availability of funding.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field prior to the start of appointment and demonstrated potential for a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research. In addition, successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education. A successful candidate must have a well-articulated plan of contributing to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students and faculty in the sciences. We especially welcome candidates who have already participated in, contributed to, or created such programs, and can articulate how this experience helped shape their plan. Candidates should present any previous experience having served as a role model in mentoring others. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to helping shape and expand the University’s diversity initiatives (http://diversity.ucsd.edu/). Applications should include a statement describing past and/or potential contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion (see http://physicalsciences.ucsd.edu/faculty/contributions-to-diversity-statements.html.)

Teaching in organic chemistry or inorganic chemistry, and related topics, will be expected. Ideally, the candidate will have skills and interest in teaching lab and lecture courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Candidates must receive their Ph.D. before July 1, 2020. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scale. Review of applications will commence on October 1, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.

Please submit a curriculum vitae with list of publications and reprints of up to five representative papers. Please also include separate statements for each of the following: 1) a statement of past and proposed research, 2) a statement of past and proposed teaching, and 3) a statement on past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion (see http://physicalsciences.ucsd.edu/faculty/contributions-to-diversity-statements.html for additional information on how to write this statement).
