Position description

The Department of Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) (http://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and is recruiting for faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate or Professor levels.

UCSD Neurosciences is a leader in basic and clinical research into the cause, effects, and treatment of neurological diseases and disorders as well as spinal cord injuries, brain tumors/defects, and cross disciplinary collaborative research. This is a tradition made possible by the vision and collaborative spirit of a large and diverse body of neuroscientists and strong partnerships with scientists from other academic and research institutions including, but not limited to, the Salk Institute, The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), and the Sanford-Burnham Institute.

A successful research scientist candidate will have the opportunity to develop extramurally funded research programs on the cutting edge and to provide leadership in neuroscience research. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work with a large group of scientists and clinicians including those through NIH-funded centers in the UCSD Department of Neurosciences. The Department provides excellent opportunities for teaching, mentorship and other patient care/academic interest opportunities with time dedicated to teaching and scholarly activity at one of the nation's top-ranked Medical Schools and one of the most academically productive Departments of Neurosciences in the country.

Candidates must have a PhD in Neurosciences, Neurology or related fields and/or MD degree or equivalent. Candidates with an MD must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California and have completed Neurology or similarly related training, and be Board eligible or certified in Neurology or related field. Candidates with an MD degree must have completed Fellowship training in some form of neurodegenerative disease or related specialty or have a track record of expertise in the area.

Candidates must have demonstrated scientific expertise in areas such as neurobiology, epidemiology, neuroimaging, neuropathology, biomarkers, or behavioral neurology/cognitive neurosciences of neurological disorders or related fields.
