Position description

The Global Health Program invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor position (also termed Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment, LPSOE), beginning July 1, 2020. The Global Health Program at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

The Assistant Teaching Professor is also known within the UC system as an LPSOE (Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment). The LPSOE series parallels that of the research-focused series but with emphasis upon excellence in teaching and other instruction-related activities. Individuals in the position are expected to provide outstanding teaching, as well as to engage in professional activity and service related to the pedagogical mission of the program and university. This appointment confers membership in the Academic Senate, and, contingent upon promotion, tenure-paralleling security of employment.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. with training in medical social science (e.g., medical anthropology, medical sociology), global health, or a closely related field. We are interested in candidates who will be able to contribute to the full range of our Global Health degree programs including Minor, BA, BS, and MA and who have experience in teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level, with special emphasis on developing our new MA program and curriculum. We seek candidates who will contribute to instruction-related activities (e.g. conducting TA training, curriculum development, creation of instructional materials, employ new technologies) at the campus, statewide and national level. Preferred candidates will have strong demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity. This position will include an appointment in a Global Health Program affiliated academic department in the Division of Social Sciences.

Applications are accepted online at: https://apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/JPF02163

Applications received by October 15, 2019 will be given full consideration. However, the position will remain open until filled.

Salary is commensurate with experience and based on the University of California pay scales.
