FACULTY POSITION AT SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY, UCSD – Ocean Acoustics

Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California San Diego (http://scripps.ucsd.edu) invites faculty applications for the position listed below. We seek a motivated, broad-thinking scientist-educator to establish a vigorous research program and provide intellectual leadership in his or her field while complementing existing expertise at Scripps and other UCSD departments. SIO is a world renowned center of marine research with approximately 200 principal investigators leading research programs on all aspects of earth, ocean, biological and atmospheric sciences. SIO is part of the University of California, San Diego, which is one of the top research universities in the world. We invite applications for an Associate Professor position with a research focus on experimental ocean acoustics. Of interest are all aspects of acoustics in the ocean including but not limited to: marine physics and the theory/modeling of sound propagation underwater including interaction with the boundaries, the sources and spatial/temporal structure of ambient sound, the development of innovative signal processing and parameter estimation approaches for use with data collected from arrays of acoustic sensors, and acoustic sensing technology development. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated the capacity to develop/maintain an innovative sea-going research program along with mentorship of both graduate and undergraduate students and an established record of exceptional classroom instruction.

The position requires a PhD in Oceanography, Physics, Engineering or a related field, a competitive record of publication and service, as well as evidence of ability to secure extramural funding and conduct an active research program. Salary will be consistent with the applicant’s qualifications and experience and with University of California pay scales.
