Position description

The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in the School of Medicine (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/surgery/divisions/cardiothoracic/faculty/Pages/default.aspx) at the University of California, San Diego is committed to excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Department is recruiting new faculty with a strong interest in education and academic medicine to join our multidisciplinary and fast-growing program.

The Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery has clinical practices in multiple locations across the region. Our team is comprised of outstanding faculty and staff committed to patient care, education and quality initiatives. In addition to clinical excellence, we are proud to have several faculty members with highly successful teaching and research programs that reflect the wide range of needs in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. As a result of our superior program and faculty, The Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UCSD has earned the respect of the national and international community.

Qualified candidates must have an MD degree and be Board-certified or Board-eligible in Thoracic Surgery within one year of appointment. They must also be able to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of California and must have permanent US residency status.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated excellent qualifications and expertise in the areas of heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, coronary surgery, structural heart surgery.

Appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Series will be determined by the successful candidate’s skills, qualifications and experience.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
