The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health (FMPH) at the University of California, San Diego’s School of Medicine (http://fmph.ucsd.edu), is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for one or more faculty positions interested in an academic career involving the practice and teaching of full spectrum family medicine to medical students and residents.
The Department also offers opportunities to teach and mentor in the Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree program, MPH and a PhD program in Public Health administered jointly between UC San Diego and San Diego State University. The Department has strong collaborative research programs facilitated by Centers of Excellence focused on Cardiovascular Epidemiology, Women’s Health, Cancer and Energetics, Tobacco Control, Health Promotion and Equity, Wireless and Population Health Systems, and Integrative Medicine. The Department also provides multiple opportunities for collaboration with colleagues in other School of Medicine departments and in the basic sciences, social sciences, and engineering departments across the UC San Diego campus. Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient care and obstetrics. Additional opportunities include contributing to the UC San Diego Institute of Public Health and the coming School of Public Health as well as collaborating within the School of Medicine.
Applicants must have an MD or DO, have completed a certified Family Medicine residency training program (or equivalent primary care residency), be board certified or eligible in Family Medicine (or an equivalent ACGME primary care specialty), and eligible for licensure in California. At the time of the new appointment, proposed candidates will be expected to show evidence of outstanding qualifications through letters of recommendation, teaching evaluations, and patient satisfaction assessments.
Board certification is a requirement of continued employment within two years of appointment.
Preferred candidates will have demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting. Demonstration of scholarly interests and progressive accomplishment are preferred. Skills in Integrative Medicine are also of interest but not required. Proven accomplishment in clinical research is desired but not required.
The appropriate appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with University of California pay scales. Position may be full-time or part-time.
