Position description

The School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego invites applications for a tenured Endowed Chair of Innovation, Science, Technology, and Policy at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, to begin July 1st, 2019.

The faculty at the School of Global Policy and Strategy (gps.ucsd.edu) represents a broad range of academic backgrounds, including both social and physical sciences. We are united by a desire to understand, design, and rigorously test solutions to promote human advancement and mitigate against pressing challenges to human welfare and global issues.

We anticipate that the Endowed Chair of Innovation, Science, Technology, and Policy will expand our leadership at the interface of STEM fields and policy. We are looking for candidates with an outstanding record of research and leadership both within their field of training, and in the intersection of that field with questions of policy, welfare, or justice. Domains of interest include, but are not limited to: climate and the environment, critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, data and privacy, development engineering, digital technology and automation, energy, health, and technological innovation.

Applicants should be PhD graduates (or equivalent terminal degree in a research discipline) with proven leadership and scholarship records. The School of Global Policy and Strategy is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. Preferred candidates should demonstrate the highest standards of professional research, teaching, and service, and contribute to -- and participate in -- our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. We welcome applications from both STEM and social science scholars who can develop rich links to other UC San Diego units, including the Jacobs School of Engineering, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Health Sciences, and the Halicioğlu Data Science Institute.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.

Application review will begin on November 25, 2018.
