Position description

The Preuss School UC San Diego is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for low-income students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. As a department within Academic Affairs, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop best practices in the preparation of low-income, urban students for college admission.
Under direction of the Principal, provide instruction, encourage student progress, and manage the learning environment. Teach content and skills in subject matter, utilizing courses of study adopted by The Preuss School Board of Directors and the California State Curriculum Standards as guidelines. Adapt subject material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students. Establish and maintain an environment conducive to positive teacher/student relations. Promote an environment which respects and values students' ideas and ways of thinking. Establish, maintain and support standards of personal conduct and discipline in accordance with the current discipline for an orderly, productive learning environment. Use a variety of assessments to monitor and evaluate the learning progress of each student and to make instructional decisions.

All applicants are required to possess the following basic qualifications:
Required - Bachelor's degree in any subject
Required - Current California Teaching Credential
Required - Mus pass LiveScan background check and Tuberculosis (TB) screening
Required - Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) compliance

Preferred:
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) experience
