Position description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery within the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (http://ortho.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body. We are seeking a researcher who has a cutting-edge, translational research program in musculoskeletal physiology and disease.

Responsibilities include: directing a successful research program, engaging in the classroom and laboratory training of UCSD undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, and residents, and service to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Qualified applicants must have an MD and/or PhD in Bioengineering, Physiology, Biology, or other Orthopaedics-related field, with at least 2 years of post-doctoral training. Candidates with an MD must be board eligible/certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and have or be eligible for a California Medical License.

Preferred candidates should have research expertise in basic science and clinical aspects of structure-function relationships in musculoskeletal tissues, including, for example, expertise in nutrient and waste transport, bone quality and/or endplate function. The candidate should have a career track record of research, publications related to experimental and computational approaches to orthopaedic biomechanics and physiology. Candidates should also have a demonstrated record of collaboration, particularly with other clinical Departments and faculty. The successful candidate should have current funding and continue to secure extramural funding to support their research program.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
